CHANGING THE STATUS QUO
OUR MISSION
Atelier MADE HERE creates high-quality fashion in the Netherlands while reducing the ecological footprint and enhancing the appreciation for craftsmanship.
WHY
The fast fashion industry is the second most polluting industry due to the enormous amount of water, pesticides and chemicals used as well as the CO2 emissions taking place during production and transport. The sector ends up with a huge amount of unsold stock: the Dutch clothing industry on its own was left with 21 million items of clothing in 2015. The vast majority of all these discarded clothes go straight into the incinerator. From less than 1% new clothes are made. Additionally the working conditions in which most of the makers worldwide are making the clothes we wear are very bad; extreme long working days, in poor conditions and not receiving a living wage.
MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN
We do things differently. We create slow fashion here in the Netherlands; timeless designs of our long-term partners for who we work with the made to order model. This way there is never any unsold stock waste. Additionally we are a tailors cooperative. The only one in the Netherlands, one of the few in the world. We have chosen to be a cooperative because it does justice to the makers. In the fashion industry in particular, it is so important that we see and appreciate the makers again. In a nutshell; we only make what is being bought and create awareness about the craftsmanship needed to make your clothes. We create clothes to love knowing that ‘loved clothes last’.
WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE
No unsold stock waste;
More appreciation for the makers;
Provide insight on the craftsmanship needed to make our garments;
Awareness about the lack of living wages for those working in the fashion industry worldwide;
Increase local production as to reduce the ecological footprint of the fashion industry;
Consolidate our cooperative model as to inspire others to follow our example.
